Believe, one of the world's leading digital music companies, came to Cebu last August to hold the regional leg of Amplify PH, a workshop for independent Cebuano artists and labels on optimizing music content, industry trends, and best practices. Together with representatives from digital service providers Spotify and YouTube, Believe brought local artists one step closer to the global music market. The multi-sector music learning event ended with a gig featuring different musical genres with performances by Crisszia, Hollywood Folk Hogan, Vincent Eco, Krna, Cookie$, Dice & K9.
Believe's mission is to develop independent artists and labels by providing them with digital solutions that will help them through different stages of their careers. By equipping artists with their full range of services, expert marketing strategies, and technology solutions, Believe helps them create content that resonates with music fans within a very competitive industry. They introduced Amplify PH, a program designed to educate artists on the latest industry trends and best practices and plans to organize the event in Cebu on a regular basis. Through Amplify, digital service providers can talk directly to the artists about new platforms, and new offerings among different platforms. Artists can also ask their questions directly to the representative of these platforms and be able to learn and more importantly, be empowered to get their music out there and to distribute it to more people. Their original music now becomes a source of income and a source of pride.
During last month's Amplify PH event, we sat down with Believe Country Director Georgette Tengco to talk about the company's vision for Cebu's dynamic music scene.
Our goal is to help emerging artists and enterprising labels to get their music out there and achieve a level of success by reaching a wider audience and generating revenue from their music. It's very exciting to see their entrepreneurial spirit and we want to make things happen for them. Believe provides the artists with the right tools and resources through technology. Behind the tech, we have expert support and manpower and even beyond that, we provide marketing strategies that empower both artists and labels to focus on their craft and build their careers.
The company's goal is to foster a thriving music ecosystem in Cebu, where the next generation of emerging artists and labels can achieve the same level of success as mainstream acts. Their different lines and businesses are able to equip artists with solutions that they need in specific phases of their artists career. For independent artists just breaking into the music scene, Tunecore is a popular DIY digital music distribution platform that allows them to get their music onto major streaming platforms like Spotify, Apple Music, and Amazon Music. while TuneCore is a great starting point for many independent artists, Believe offers a more comprehensive range of services and support for those looking to take their careers to the next level.
According to Head of Labels and Artist Solutions (LAS) Mony Romana, Believe provides tools and automated platforms for distribution and marketing. They also help with Label Management by giving advice on release planning and promotion. The biggest benefit for artist and labels is the assistance with distribution and streaming on digital service providers including platforms like Spotify, YouTube, etc.
Another invaluable service would be access to Believe's Backstage where artist can get all the data they need in terms of performance of their content, sources of revenue and where they are trending online. Believe's roster of label and production managers equip artists with knowledge on trends, options, strategies and advice as to how they can make better decisions and create better plans based on their strengths, what their fans want, and the requirements of different digital service providers. In the end, the artists and labels are very much in control of their own careers.
A local artist Maguindanao who gained rising fame and popularity online, Shaira, recently became a part of the Believe family through her label AHS productions. Shaira gained fame with her song, Selos, and has been coined as the Queen of Bangsamoro Pop. Today, thousands more Filipinos now have access to her unique sound and vibrant culture. It is very exciting for us at Believe to provide a platform for an artist like her and expand her market. With Digital being the great equalizer, Believe is open to working with anyone.
Mony added, "We want to include any genre and support what they do and give them a broader audience. We also are proud to be a catalyst in making the local music industry more inclusive by creating opportunities for LGBT artists like Dom Guyot to share his unique voice. By promoting diversity and inclusion, we are definitely building a more dynamic and equitable music industry. "
To cater to more established artists, Believe offers bespoke go-to-market strategies and marketing support through its Artist Services division. This personalized approach helps artists refine their brand and reach their target audience effectively. Believe's ultimate aim is to empower artists to turn their passion into a sustainable business, providing them with the tools and knowledge they need to generate a livelihood from their music. Â Success stories include Bisaya rapper Cookie$, who started his Believe journey with Label and Artist Solution before transitioning to Artist Services.
As Believe continues to expand its presence in Cebu, the company's impact on the local music scene is undeniable. By empowering artists and providing them with the tools they need to succeed, Believe is helping to nurture the next generation of talent and shape the future of Cebu's music industry.
